Kyle Beckerman – dreadlocks, tattoos and Jewish roots

Kyle Beckerman, 32, the American midfielder and captain of Real Salt Lake, will finally have his childhood dream realized as he makes his World Cup debut today in Brazil. The Associated Press is reporting that although coach Jurgen Klinsmann could still make some last minute tweaks, it’s looking like a lock for this Maryland native to take the pitch as the holding midfielder for Team USA against Ghana.  The starting role would not only be huge for Beckerman but also critical for the US if they are to advance out of the group stage.  In both 2006 and 2010, Ghana took fast advantage of poorly timed passes from the base of the American Midfield and just as quickly, scored goals that ultimately eliminated the US National Team from the worlds biggest stage.  Now it’s 2014…in Beckerman we trust!
Details about Beckerman’s Jewishness are sparse, but the Jewish Exponent assures us that he is in fact a member of the tribe. And a hopelessly good-looking one at that. We’ll be rooting for you, Beckerman.
Hey, if you follow him on Twitter @KyleBeckerman, maybe you’ll see pictures with his shirt off. While you’re there looking for topless Beckerman photos, follow us @SDJewishJournal for good measure.
USA! USA! USA!

  1. LET’S SEE … THIS JERK, BECKERMAN, WENT TO THE VERY CATHOLIC DEMATHA HIGH SCHOOL AND MARRIED A GREEK IN A CATHOLIC CEREMONY. AND HE’S TRYING TO LOOK LIKE SOME SECOND-RATE RAP SINGER. SORRY, BUT HE IS NO MEMBER OF OUR TRIBE !

So he’s a jerk because he practices Catholicism vice Judaism even if born of Jewish decent? And what the hell does marrying a Greek have to do with anything? Also I always associated dreadlocks with Reggae, not rap. Bitter aren’t we? TURN THE CAP LOCKS OFF. IT DOESN’T DRIVE YOUR POINT.

Kyle Beckerman’s father Paul is Jewish, his mother is not. I realize that I’m latte to the party with this post… Just catching up on some articles. I knew his father many years ago. We were both counselors at a Jewish Camp in Pennsylvania.
