With all the hair salons in San Diego, it can be difficult to find a space and a stylist that fit your needs, and for many, a haircut is something they don’t take lightly. But clients of Shampoo Too in Solana Beach can rest assured they are getting the best service possible by trained professionals in a salon with a chic, modern atmosphere.
Located in Solana Beach’s famous Cedros design district in a 2,000-square-foot industrial space with high ceilings, repurposed furniture and hand painted art along the interior walls, this isn’t your grandmother’s beauty shop.
“There’s always lots of energy here,” says owner and stylist Shlomit Arviv, who co-owns the salon with her uncle and fellow stylist Nezi Arviv. “You can often find the stylists dancing to music ranging from salsa to opera, pop and hip-hop.”
As a Kerastase salon, the back bar at Shampoo Too and all the stylists’ stations are equipped with top of the line Kerastase products. Lately, much of the salon’s business has been in giving Brazilian blowouts to its clientele.
“We’ve been very busy with the [Brazilian blowout] treatment,” Shlomit says. “It’s crazy. We brought the style to San Diego from Los Angeles and it has just grown and grown.”
People of all ages are welcome at Shampoo Too, but adults are the only ones who will receive champagne or wine during their visit. Arviv says there is always good food around, too.
“We really pamper our clients here,” she says, referring to either the massage clients receive at the shampoo bowl or the complementary food and drinks provided during the hair cut.
“There’s something for everyone here,” she says. “We do color, highlights, hair extensions, perms, relaxers and lately, a lot of balayage.”
Balayage, a soft highlight, gives a sun-kissed look that appears natural as it grows out and is a favorite of celebrities. It’s also perfect for the beach-town vibe in San Diego, Shlomit says, and it’s just one of the cutting edge hair trends with which the stylists at Shampoo Too are familiar.
“I try to [keep everyone here well-informed] by holding classes here every month,” Shlomit says of staying on top of the trends.
But Shampoo Too is a grounded group, too. At a Jewish community celebration in May, stylists gave back by pampering tzofim before they performed with hairdos and snacks at the salon.
“We’re like a family here, and you can feel it when you come here,” Shlomit says. “It’s the difference here, because we feel like clients are part of our family too.”
Shampoo Too is open Monday through Saturday, and Sundays by appointment. For pricing and monthly specials, call directly.
