Omri Casspi Raises Money for Israelby Caline Chitayat June 9, 2016
In conjunction with his own Omri Casspi Foundation, basketball player Omri Casspi of the Sacramento Kings has created a crowdfunding campaign to support and raise awareness for Israel. Casspi, a native Israeli, is hoping to raise $200,000 for three organizations that are working to improve public perception and understanding.
The organizations Casspi and his Foundation have selected are: Yad Ezrah, which runs a variety of humanitarian projects and supplies vital aid to more than 100,000 Jews annually throughout Israel; Israel Children’s Cancer Foundation which provides clinical support for Israeli children suffering from cancer. It offers assistance to every child in need in the state of Israel; Shalva, the Association for Mentally and Physically Challenged Children in Israel, is dedicated to offering high quality care for individuals with disabilities. The organization empowers families and promotes social inclusion.
In 2015, Casspi and several of his fellow NBA colleagues embarked on a week-long journey through Israel where they explored historical sights, met with nonprofits and engaged in an internal dialogue between our nations about the importance of increasing awareness. The trip successfully brought publicity and a new understanding of Israel to the American public and further solidified the alliance between the two nations.
Casspi’s campaign is housed on the crowdfunding site Charity Box. There are only four days left in the campaign, which has a long way to go to reach its goal.
