Jewish Food Hero Expands to Create Luxe Holiday Calendarby Caline Chitayat July 21, 2016
Jewish Food Hero founder Kenden Alfond is no stranger to trying new things. She has spent the past 10 years living and working around the world on humanitarian, post-conflict and development issues with the United Nations and several NGOs.
Seeing so much suffering and material poverty has helped her learn to take better care of herself emotionally and physically.
“When I was young, I saw beauty and self-care as superficial. I’ve since learned that taking care of myself is a form of self-respect,” she writes on her website. Originally from Maine, Alfond currently lives in Cambodia with her husband and daughter.
Alfond created Jewish Food Hero to provide women with resources designed to nourish and strengthen their relationships with themselves. She recently released a digital cookbook, “Jewish Food Hero Cookbook: 50 Simple Plant-Based Recipes for Your Holiday Meals,” that uses kosher pareve ingredients and pulls from traditional and symbolic dishes for each particular holiday. The SDJJ published her vegetarian shepherd’s pie recipe in time for Passover this year. Alfond also sells beautiful notebooks and stationary on her website.
Now, Alfond is expanding in the fine art realm to create a beautiful calendar of all the Jewish holidays. Alfond says she was inspired to create luxe home décor and art that also reflects the Jewish faith. She worked with Tyler and Jessie Thiessen of One Plus One Design to develop the calendar, which is now available in limited edition. The calendar, which is printed with letterpress on thick linen paper, displays the sixteen major Jewish holidays with beautiful custom icons and this year’s dates. It is the perfect home display, but also makes a unique gift for hostesses, schools and synagogues. The calendars will be available for purchase for a limited time, from July 11 through Yom Kippur. Alfond will be printing enough calendars to fulfill the orders she receives. Each calendar retails for $36.
