The Decline of Men Working: Why It Is Happening, What It Means, and What to Do About It With Jason Furman

Since receiving his Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University, Jason Furman has been one of America’s most influential economic advisers. He served as a member of Obama’s Presidential Transition Team in 2008, Principal Deputy Director of the National Economic Council from 2009 to 2013, and was Chair of the President’s Council of Economic Advisers from 2013-2017. He has also been a Senior Fellow at both the Brookings Institution and the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. He has held visiting positions at various universities, including New York University’s Graduate School of Public Policy. He will be discussing the dramatic decline in male labor-force participation rates and the implications for U.S. policy.Part of the 2017 UCSD Economics Roundtable Lecture Series.

For the 2017 Children’s Charity Gala: Pioneering the Future presented by Witt Lincoln, Father Joe’s Villages celebrates its history of innovation and explores how it will continue to uphold that tradition. The captivating event will feature dinner, dancing and a silent auction at the historic US Grant and raise money for Father Joe’s Villages’ therapeutic childcare programs for children ages 0 to 12.

Taste of Little Italy

Neighborhood restaurants will open their doors for the foodie event of the summer, Taste of Little Italy Presented by U.S. Bank, in San Diego’s Little Italy from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Attendees can stroll the sidewalks of Little Italy enjoying live music on street corners and taste bites from dozens of popular restaurants in the area. Ticket holders will receive a Taste Passport mapping out a list of participating restaurants and their menu offerings including appetizers, entrees, desserts and beverages.
