Mission Federal ArtWalk in Little Italy

San Diego’s premier arts and cultural event, Mission Federal ArtWalk, is coming back to the streets of Little Italy on April 29 – April 30 to celebrate its 33rd year as the largest fine art festival in Southern California. The 17-block wide event features over 350 local, national and international artists coming together for a free two-day festival filled with art, live entertainment, food, drinks, and more.

San Diego History Center Meetup with Beth Israel

A special exhibition at the San Diego History Center chronicles the history of the Jewish community in San Diego. Exhibit curator and Beth Israel member, Joellyn Zollman, will host a private lecture at the History Center for trip attendees, starting promptly at 10:00 am. Docents will be on site to guide you through the exhibit.

Workshop: Paper Making at the Oceanside Museum of Art

Robin Douglas will demonstrate how to make beautiful sheets of paper. Bring in plants, photos and other objects to incorporate into your own stationery, journal, or 3-D work of art. All other supplies provided.

The Decline of Men Working: Why It Is Happening, What It Means, and What to Do About It With Jason Furman

Since receiving his Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University, Jason Furman has been one of America’s most influential economic advisers. He served as a member of Obama’s Presidential Transition Team in 2008, Principal Deputy Director of the National Economic Council from 2009 to 2013, and was Chair of the President’s Council of Economic Advisers from 2013-2017. He has also been a Senior Fellow at both the Brookings Institution and the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. He has held visiting positions at various universities, including New York University’s Graduate School of Public Policy. He will be discussing the dramatic decline in male labor-force participation rates and the implications for U.S. policy.Part of the 2017 UCSD Economics Roundtable Lecture Series.

Insightful and frequently provocative, Torah study at Beth Israel will prompt you to engage with the text in new ways. Young and old, scholars and beginners are all welcome.
