His famous scores of Tim Burton’s films will be brought to life on stage by orchestra, and enhanced by visuals on the big screen of Burton’s original film sketches, drawings and story boards. YWCA of San Diego County will present the 10th annual “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes®” fundraising walk. Men, alongside women and children, are invited to walk a mile in heels through downtown San Diego County to increase awareness of domestic violence in the community and help end the pervasive issue once and for all.
In celebration of Dia de los Muertos and Halloween, this party will feature spooky good libations, art-making activities, and musical experiences. Come in costume or just as you are, and bring a friend to get a scary good discount on tickets. This much-loved event sells out quickly—so buy tickets well in advance. Must be 21+ to attend.
The fall season of the “Pleasure of Your Company” music series will open with a performance by concert pianist Bryan Verhoye on Sunday, September 9, at 2:30 PM at the Scripps Miramar Ranch Library Center. His program will include works by Beethoven, Mendelssohn, and Rachmaninoff.
Mr. Verhoye trained at the USC School of Music, the Aspen Music School, and the Peabody Conservatory and has won first-prize awards from the International Piano Recording Competition and the Carmel Music Society, as well as multiple awards from the Musical Merit Foundation of San Diego. His performance in Carmel of Stravinsky’s “Three Movements from Petrouchka” was broadcast on National Public Radio’s syndicated Performance Today program. In addition to numerous appearances with the San Diego Symphony in both classical and jazz settings, Bryan is in demand as a solo recitalist, accompanist, and chamber music performer in San Diego and throughout the West Coast. He is also a frequent adjudicator in piano competitions in San Diego and southern California. A published composer and arranger, he is also the accompanist for the San Diego Master Chorale, Music Associate/Pianist at Point Loma Community Presbyterian Church, and Adjunct Professor of Music at Grossmont College.
Meet the artist and mingle with fellow music lovers at a complimentary post-concert reception. There is no charge for the concert, which is sponsored by the Scripps Ranch Friends of the Library, although donations are appreciated. The Eclectic Lawn series is adventurous music for the community on St. Michael’s lawn, with a beer garden and food trucks. These concerts are free and open to the public; food and drink available for purchase.
