Women Occupy San Diego offers a free film screening every month at the museum. This month’s film is Acadmey Award nominated documentary “The Hunting Ground”.
The statistics are staggering. One in five women in college are sexually assaulted, yet only a fraction of these crimes are reported, and even fewer result in punishment for the perpetrators. From the intrepid team behind The Invisible War comes The Hunting Ground, a piercing, monumental exposé of rape culture on campuses, poised to light a fire under a national debate.
In a tour de force of verité footage, expert insights, and first-person testimonies, the film follows undergraduate rape survivors pursuing both their education and justice, despite ongoing harassment and the devastating toll on them and their families.
The 11th annual Miracle Babies Superhero 5K will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 5, 2019, at NTC Park at Liberty Station (2455 Cushing Road), with registration beginning at 7:00 a.m. This joyful event includes a timed 5K run at 8:00 a.m., followed by a family-friendly 5K walk at 9:00 a.m., perfect for all levels. Attendees are encouraged to show their spirit by dressing up as their favorite superhero!

A portion of the proceeds from this Community Day event are going to support the local organization Home Start. Home Start, a nonprofit child abuse prevention and treatment agency that has strengthened and developed San Diego’s families and communities since 1972, will receive a portion of proceeds from this event. Village Vino will host Home Start at its high-top table in the restaurant during the event, where guests can learn more about Home Start and its upcoming Hallo-Wine Fall Festival, as well as offer various donations. Home Start will be accepting monetary donations, items such as diapers, and lightly used thrift items.
