Each year, during the summer harvest holiday of Shavuot, it is a tradition to give up an entire night and dedicate it to studying, Torah, and learning.

The themes of the evening are roses, Ruth, and Revelation, and yes, there will be cheesecake.
Neighborhood restaurants will open their doors for the foodie event of the summer, Taste of Little Italy Presented by U.S. Bank, in San Diego’s Little Italy from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Attendees can stroll the sidewalks of Little Italy enjoying live music on street corners and taste bites from dozens of popular restaurants in the area. Ticket holders will receive a Taste Passport mapping out a list of participating restaurants and their menu offerings including appetizers, entrees, desserts and beverages.
There is a comprehensive program through Jewish National Fund (JNF) called CAARI: Canadian American Active Retirees in Israel. This unique travel program is designed specifically for active retirees or semi-retirees (50 plus). CAARI is more than a touring program. Now in its 35th year, CAARI volunteers can stay from two to seven weeks and experience tours throughout the country, take part in community service programs, plus enjoy a speakers’ component to help develop an appreciation and knowledge of the country, its people, history and the work of JNF.

Fashion-minded guests may participate in Del Mar’s annual tradition, the Opening Day Hats Contest where entrants compete for cash prizes and judged on creativity and style.
