The Lawrence Family JCC will screen the short documentary, Vaden Versus, followed by a motivational program including a question and answer session with “The Ultimate” Vaden, himself.
Vaden’s story goes from triumph to tragedy back to triumph again. In a 1999 title fight, the world champion boxer knocked out Stephan Johnson. While Vaden knew his opponent was hurt, he had no idea he would die 15 days later. Wracked with guilt, the San Diego native was forced to deal with the consequences of his victory. Admits Vaden, “I’ve been in very dark places, almost forgetting how to live. But,” he continues, “I got back in the ring, worked through fear and guilt and learned how to breathe again.”
