Berk’s Diner & Comedy Club

Congregation Beth Israel is excited for its Annual Fundraiser, Berk’s Diner and Comedy Club. They will honor Rabbi Michael Berk as they celebrate his retirement. The event will feature great food and an impressive silent auction, and the program will showcase a fabulous stand-up comedian, Joel Chasnoff. Sam “The Cooking Guy” Zien will be the emcee for the evening. Following the program, you can enjoy a dessert reception and an afterparty with a DJ and dancing. Dress in casual attire and come prepared for a fun-filled evening!

“12 Dancing Princesses” Family Ballet

Ballet Institute of San Diego presents the American premiere of “12 Dancing Princesses,” a two-act ballet based partly on the Brothers Grimm tale.

In the story, 12 princesses are locked in their bedroom each night by their over-protective father. But every morning, their dancing shoes are mysteriously worn through. The king promises his kingdom to any man who can figure out the princesses’ midnight secret.

This version features music by Tchaikovsky and choreography by Egle Spokaite and Z. Baikstyte. Performed by a youth cast of dancers from Ballet Institute of San Diego, the show was created specifically to engage young audiences.

Not-So-Silent Short Film Fest

Vanguard Culture and the La Jolla Historical Society present three interactive evenings of silent short films curated by award-winning multi-media curator and soundscape artist Scott Paulson. Paulson will present lively screenings of silent classics with his band, the Teeny-Tiny Pit Orchestra. Audiences are encouraged to grab sound makers ranging from exotic wooden birdcalls, to giant thunder-sheets, to old-school car horns to help underscore the films. Featuring craft cocktails and delicious gourmet popcorn varieties by Vanguard Culture’s Culinary Director Chef Daniella de la Puente. Cost of ticket includes 1 bag of gourmet popcorn + 1 beverage.
