Jose Ferrer directed this brash, hard-bitten expose. A probing reporter (Ferrer) is tasked with assembling a crowd-pleasing tribute to a renowned broadcaster after his death. The emerging collage is of an autocratic, narcissistic heel loved by everybody, except those who hated him. The broadcaster’s populist ways and colossal ego were the model for the cracker-barrel demagogue in “A Face in the Crowd”. Discussion after the film.
